Law in the Time of Coronavirus

By Brian Lynch
In The News, The Firm, You Should Know, Around The World

With the global threat of coronavirus forcing an unprecedented level of precaution, industries across the world have been required to adapt to the need for remote access for employees. And while working remotely just isn’t feasible for many Americans who continue showing up for work to provide food and other essential goods and services to keep the country running, we wanted to take a few minutes to recognize how fortunate we are.

Wexler Wallace was proactive about the danger coronavirus presents to public health and insisted our attorneys and staff work remotely a week before Governor Pritzker issued the shelter-in-place order for Illinois. We weren’t sure what to expect with the transition. A few members of our team already work remotely most of the time, and the nature of our business necessitates using technology to stay connected while away from the office. But having our entire team scattered to the winds was uncharted territory for us. How would everyone adapt?

We’re happy to report that the answer to that question is, “very well.” Between a robust suite of programs and mobile apps, technology has allowed us to continue the work we do without missing a beat. Our team has been fantastic throughout all of this, adapting to the change in environment and disruption to the usual flow of business like the rock stars they are. Despite all the uncertainty and strife that have become a part of our daily lives, their professionalism and dedication is a constant for which we are exceptionally grateful.

There is a lot of information out there about how to cope with coronavirus itself and the seismic shift it’s left in its wake. Rather than add to it, we’d like to offer a different piece of advice: take a moment to think about and appreciate the people on whom you rely. Whether it’s friends, family, or coworkers, none of us is alone in this. Even if we can’t occupy the same physical space for a while, we couldn’t do it without them.

And even if you can’t cap off a long week in person, a virtual happy hour can work just fine.
